This book contains a collection of specially commissioned papers from contributors from Australia, Great Britain, Canada, USA and Northern Ireland. It examines some linking themes between the systems for dealing with complaints against the police in different countries, including the systems which are set up to ensure that reforms are carried out, and the role of law in dealing with misconduct on the part of organizations. This comparative approach is chosen as in this area the problems encountered share a number of common features. This book aims to fill a gap in the literature of police studies, and to make a contribution to the continuing discussion on the greater public accountability of police forces throughout the world.
