Curriculum Bank is a practical activity-based series which can be used as a planning tool to help devise a comprehensive scheme of work, and as an easily accessible bank of ideas. The lesson plans target specific learning objectives and collectively provide a progressive coverage of the programmes of study. Lively photocopiable worksheets support many of the activities and save valuable teacher time. Guidance for differentiation and formative assessment is incorporated throughout, with specific assessment lessons for summative purposes also included. IT applications and other cross-curricular links are highlighted, as are ideas for display. This book, aimed at National Curriculum Key Stage two and Scottish levels C-E, provides a range of well-structured and progressive activities which focus on the spelling and phonic requirements of the English curriculum. It recognises that both spelling skills and phonological awareness must be taught within the reading and writing process as a whole and therefore the activities are presented within relevant and meaningful contexts.
Although the book does not attempt to prescribe an order in which different aspects of spelling and phonics should be taught, the activities do link together to form a clear progression from inexperienced to experienced. The activities are organised into sections which look at the alphabet, word families, homophones, rules, problems with spelling.
