The reader is taken through the countryside surrounding Nantwich starting to the north and working around the town in a clockwise direction within a radius of approximately 8 miles. Demolished residential properties from large houses to farmhouses and rural cottages take up the majority of the book but other buildings used for manufacture, retail and religion are included. The presence of several corn mills in the immediate area provide an useful reminder of their importance to the community in days gone by. Some have been demolished with little or no trace while others have been converted into private accommodation and are also recorded. Other rural properties similarly converted or demolished, include toll houses, chapels and beerhouses.
