Cocktails and Books

I love hockey romances, so anytime I see one I tend to snatch it up. Brenda Rothert's series was new to me so I was interested in what kind of hero Bennett would be. Thankfully, he wasn't a douchebaggy hero who readers might love to hate. Instead, he was a sweet man who fought hard to have the woman that he wanted, even when she didn't want him there.
Bennett is a minor league hockey player trying to make it to the NHL. He plays hard for his team and often plays just as hard off the ice. But everything changes for him when he meets slightly tipsy Charlotte at a local bar, has earth-shattering "it's supposed to be a one-night stand" sex and suddenly finds his world turned upside down two months later when she ends up pregnant.
Generally the whole accidentally pregnancy storylines bores me. But for some reason, this one worked. Maybe it was because instead of the heroine chasing down the hero and pleading with him to man up, Bennett demands to be involved in everything pregnancy related. It's Charlotte who tries to fight it. Demands she wants nothing from Bennett and declares she can do it on her own. Add in the fact that Charlotte is Bennett's best friend's sister and the tension was enough to make me quickly read to see what happens next.
The story was cute, our hero and heroine obviously meant to raise their family together. There were a few storyline flaws (such as how did Bennett not know who Charlotte's brother was considering they're roommates and best friends), but the storyline in general was put together enough that a reader could move on without dwelling on it.
