Japanese-born artist Leiko Ikemura has been living in Europe for almost 30 years, and her artistic activities involve the exploration of these two cultures. In the 1980s, Ikemura concentrated on probing allegorical picture narratives but around 1990 her interest shifted to cosmology, since then her works have predominately been living from colour with very little narrative, depicting atmospheric situations of bodies in space. For this book she created numerous new works; paintings, watercolours and sculptures, whose central theme is the depiction of space extending beyond the material and the measurable.
