The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam is the Netherlands' National Museum, the world-renowned home of thousands of masterpieces of art and antiquity. Since first opening its doors in 1800, the museum has acquired an outstanding collection, offering an overview of Dutch art and history from the Middle Ages onwards and of major aspects of European and Asian art. Today, the Rijksmuseum displays over 8,000 works, taken from an astonishing wider collection of 1 million.
