I had a very meh reaction to this story. It's a pretty typical story of a teen who finds out that they have magical abilities and that there's a hidden world beside this one of magic and magical creatures. It's been done before and this version didn't stand out for me. I actually found it quite easy to put it down and move on to something else while reading it. It wasn't terrible, it just didn't wow me.

And to be honest I wanted more of Gus, I wanted his story. He seemed to be there as support not as a character of his own.

I think the most disappointing thing about this book was that it felt like it could be more.

This book needs more appreciation. While it does have some Harry Potter parallels, it still manages to create a new story. If I could, I would've given this book 4,5 stars; it wasn't quite as unputdownable as I thought it would be, but it still didn't let me down. I felt like a kid when I read this book; I was in a tiny bubble surrounded by magic.

I would've liked for Oksa to be more true to her age. I found her acting like a 16 year old at some points. Also, I would've really liked it if Gus would've been in the whole book, it was like the writer forgot about him for a few pages and then suddenly he was with us again. It felt kind of weird. It wasn't disturbing to the storyline, it just felt odd.

What I liked the most about this story was the way it was written. I could easily imagine it being read to me, even though it's a bit too long for that.

This is such a great childrens book, and I cannot wait for the next book to be released.
