Another absolut hit in this series!
I love that Patricia Briggs is changing it up for this one, taking the series to europa and Prague, it makes for an intruiging change. I really liked the dual narrators, although it was getting frustrating sometimes when you were really getting into one storyline and then had to jump to the other one, but I understand why it was done and it adds a nice complexity to the storyline.

I really liked the focus on Vampires and their games, it made for some fascinating twists and turns and the different layers of the storyline were amazing!

OMG I can't believe Bran was there and I didn't notice for the whole time! I suspected something was off about his character for the whole book but the reveal that it was him *gasp*!! absolut banger!!

I enjoyed this a lot - especially the way it switched back and forth between Mercy and Adam's point of view. I'm wondering how this book fits into the scope of the series, though. It feels like a one-off, unless the things that happened end up connecting somewhere else in the future. It was fun to be in such a different setting, for sure. And after no vampires in the last book, this more than made up for it.

Silence Fallen had so much danger and suspense! It has been a while since I spent some time with Mercy, Adam and the rest, and I had missed them. Of course, I truly realized this while I was reading.
Part of the action here took place in Prague, and I loved that. I recognized some of the places Mercy saw, and I had the same reaction as her to the absinthe shop!
Well written, fast-paced, and with Mercy continuing to be awesome, I loved Silence Fallen so much.

Silence Fallen is the tenth novel in the Mercy Thompson series. It feels crazy that there are so many books in the series so far. Especially considering how most of us still can't seem to get enough! I for one hope the series continues for a long time yet.
The Mercy Thompson brings a lot to the table, so there's a reason fans love it so much. For starters, they have an amazing set of characters. And I don't just mean Mercy and Adam (though they obviously are fantastic). The supporting characters and antagonists are complicated and well written, as is the world they're in.
There's also a decent amount of variety. Mercy is constantly coming up again supernatural problems. In the last novel, it was fae. In this one it's mostly vampires. But there are support from werewolves, vampires (different vampires, that is) and witches. To say that there are an intricate interaction and political system would be putting it mildly. And that is one of my favorite things about this series, to be honest.
I've been binge reading this series all week, trying to get caught up in time for Storm Cursed. Honestly though, I don't know what I'm going to do once I'm caught up. I've been so immersed in the world of Mercy, I just know I'm going to go through a book withdrawal here.


Warnings: Minor warning for this novel, but there is a kidnapping that occurs, and there's a fair amount of injuries that come with it. That coupled with the implications that come with being held by vampires and well...you get where I'm going with this.
Silence Fallen was an amazing and fast-paced read. I couldn't put it down, and ended up reading it all in one sitting. Something I kind of regret now, since I wish I could keep reading it. If I had my choice of superpowers, I'd want the one that let me reread books again for the first time.
The novel kicked off with a fun moment – something I think we needed to see after what happened to Mercy at the end of the last book. We needed to see her and the pack having fun – and getting along.
Granted, this is Mercy we're talking about. So naturally things took a turn very quickly. Even though I knew it was coming, the sudden twist completely threw me through a loop. I can only imagine how Mercy felt!
From there the pace kept going at a steady rate. I love that we were actually able to see Adam's side of things. It doesn't happen often (last time I think was in Frost Burned), but it is usually warranted when it happens. For example, when the two are separated and doing completely different things.
Patricia Briggs did a wonderful job of showing us the emotional side of Adam's trouble here, while also showing us the ramifications of the actions from the last two books. The pact doesn't have the ability to rely on other packs anymore, and thus Adam had to use other resources to help Mercy. It was interesting to see.
There was a lot of character development in this novel as well. And I don't just mean the main characters. A lot of the secondary characters, like Adam's pack or the witches, got a chance to show some changes and progress. It was refreshing on many levels. And foreshadowing in others.
I feel like this novel may just be one of the more political novels in the series. Though maybe it just feels that way because of all of the vampire interactions. Adam and his crew had to deal with vampire politics. Both the good and the ugly. But mostly the ugly. Meanwhile, Mercy was dealing with werewolf politics, though she saw her share of the vamp stuff as well.
The golem was an unexpected twist, but I honestly ended up loving it more than almost anything else in the book. It added so much tension, and gave the few vampires in the scene a real chance to shine – not a common occurrence for these guys.
All in all I really enjoyed Silence Fallen. I feel like it was one of the better examples of the series. I'm looking forward to reading Storm Cursed, even if that does mean that I'll be out of books in the series to read.

I always enjoy going back to Mercy's world, and I felt the need recently, since I am championing her in the Ultimate Alpha contest on vampirebookclub.net. This time, Mercy is kidnapped by a vampire who has designs of his own, and ends up - as she often does - causing chaos around her. Her mate, meanwhile, must ally with those he may not always trust in order to try and get her back.

I can always count on Mercy to provide me with an entertaining read that I will struggle to put down. This, happily, was no exception to that rule.

Mercy is kidnapped by vampires and is taken to Europe, where she escapes, but has no clothes, no money and no passport and must stay on the run until Adam can find her and neutralise the threat to herself and her pack.   I'll admit I was less enthusiastic about this one that I normally am about the books in this series, because my first thoughts ran along the lines of 'oh, yay.  Woman in peril who must fight to survive and over come obstacles over and over again.'   I could not have been more wrong.  Yes, there are perils and obstacles, but they are more than balanced out by moments of control and action and intelligence.  This book was also far more about political negotiations and intelligence analysis, if you'll excuse the out-of-place term here, and I loved that.  This felt like a far more intelligent novel that the previous books.   And for the first time in I can't even remember how long, I was totally blown away by the twist.  Never. saw. that. coming.  I actually exclaimed 'holy sh*t!' out loud.  Well played, Briggs.  Absolutely brilliant.   There wasn't anything I didn't thoroughly enjoy in this book; I had no complaints at all.

As perfect as always. My only complaint is that there wasn't as much Mercy as I was used to. I was also really confused when we got Matt's point of view randomly but it makes sense after the ending. As much as I hated that there wasn't enough Mercy, I was really happy with getting a peek into Adam's mind for a change. I loved that it was him getting caught up with all the supernaturals but I could have used with more fighting and less political stuff. Still, it was an awesome book and now I'm sad that I have to wait for the next one.
