The Salford Sentence Reading Test is a simple and quick individual test of oral reading based on a series of sentences of graded difficulty. First published in 1976, it has become popular with both classroom teachers and special needs co-ordinators, and this teacher's manual is designed as part of a revised series which restandardizes the test with nationally representative norms. The test takes as little as two to three minutes per child, and is especially suitable for assessing children who appear to be failing to make satisfactory reading progress. Each of the test forms (X and Y) comprises 13 sentences presented in order of increasing difficulty, for the child to read aloud. The test aims to give reliable reading ages based on national norms for ages five to nine. The test cards are reusable and the record sheets are available in packs of 20.
