Curled in the corner of the room George could only listen to what followed as slowly the door opened and the shaft of light from the corridor crawled across the floor to find him. The tall figure of Mr Ragwort stood framed in the doorway. Behind him George could see the smaller form of his son, hopping excitedly from foot to foot.
Across the hall, in his mother's room something growled, a noise that sounded like sludge gurgling down a plughole and he heard his mother scream once and then there was horrible, horrible silence.
"Alone at last!" In his shadow dark face Mr Ragwort's smile flashed brightly...
In this the second book of the White Crow Thomas, Emily, George an Clyde continue to investigate the strange events surrounding the house on Ghost Hill with dire consequences for George.
