Marshal Jason Brand decided he was due a break after his last assignment, so he rode off to Mexico - in the company of a young woman named Sarita. But his peace is soon shattered by the old Apache, Nante, who asks Brand to bring in those of his people who have been enticed away to the Sierra Madre badlands by the renegade Benito. And so it is that Brand saddles up and sets off on the dangerous trail for Benito. The way is treacherous and Brand has to use all his skill and his guns to reach the Sierra Madre. Then when he finally arrives, there are surprises in store as he must face old enemies. Can he, will he, live long enough to fulfil his promise to Nante?
