Forward the Guards! follows the story of the Brigade of Guards from their departure from London in early 1854 for the East, describes their experiences in the Crimea, focusing particularly on the prominent role they played in the principal battles of the campaign, and recalls their return to England in 1856. The Guards' story is told using several eyewitness accounts, both published and unpublished, making use of the extensive archives of the three regiments of Guards that served in the Crimea, the Grenadier Guards, the Coldstream Guards and the Scots Fusilier Guards. The result is an original and revealing record of a difficult, bloody and often controversial campaign.
