This book introduces a new character, Scarlet (aka Red Riding Hood). Scarlet lives with her Grandmother who has been missing for almost 2 weeks. We follow Scarlet as she tries to track her down. Scarlet is not afraid to speak her mind, even when it gets her in trouble. She is feisty and not easily deterred.
We, of course, introduce Wolf but I'm not going to say much more about him except I love him.
The story is told from dual POV. We flick between Scarlet and Cinder. Cinder's story continues from the first book and slowly we see how these two characters stories collide.
I think I loved this just as much as the first one. The introduction of the new characters who have such strong voices from the off just helps to enrich this already exciting world.
I am a big fan of dystopian as well as fantasy and sci-fi but these genres can be overdone or done poorly. Marissa, however, does a fantastic job of making the world unique. It's well thought out and well built.
If you can't tell I loved this book and I cannot wait to jump into Cress.

With this second book we get to explore a lot more of this exciting and strange new world, while at the same time the story progresses. One of the strongest factors for me to like a book is whether the plot is following some logical sequence. And by that I mean, whether everything that happens is not just because, well, the author needed to story to go somewhere, but because the characters lead it this way. In The Lunar Chronicles the characters lead the story, which makes this a good series in my books.

Fairy-tale retellings are super hard to pull off, and very often are a huge disappointment. However, Marissa Meyer really surprised me with Cinder, so I had my hopes of for her Red Riding Hood inspired second installment of the Lunar Chronicles, Scarlet.
Let me say straight away, Meyer didn't let me down. Scarlet is another smart and funny novel that you will love. She introduces many new characters and you can't wait to explore who they are and more important: how they are connected to our most beloved characters from part 1!
For me, the book was impossible to put down and I enjoyed diving deeper into the world Meyer created. As I mentioned before, the only that annoys me is the constant introduction of love stories. I guess, you can't do a fairy-tale without some version of a prince charming, but Meyer gave us so many amazing and strong female characters, I wish they could just continue to be bad-ass without a man.

After falling in love with Cinder, it was only a matter of time before I got my hands on the sequel, Scarlet, and Scarlet did not disappoint.
I love, LOVE this series so far! I have always loved fairy tales and this is probably one of the best re-tellings I've ever read! Marissa Meyer's writing is very good and she takes the classic fairy tales of Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood and places them in a very unique world that makes sense to the actual story. Very, very unique~ I mean, EVERYTHING about this series is just pure genius. Marissa Meyer has an incredible way with words and an even more incredible way of weaving all these stories together. I mean... she literally manages to include both the smallest and largest of details from each fairy tale without it being obvious or forced. And that's not an easy task.
Much like the first book I couldn't put this down, it was captivating from the start. Cinder, and Scarlet this one was just as addictive and drew me into the world from word one, and I couldn't stop. I just loved the first book so much and was really looking forward to reading the sequel right away, which is why I bought the series so I could just read them all! haha

The story starts with Scarlet who is worried sick because her Grandma's been missing for a couple of days. She's never done that before so Scarlet knows something was wrong. But of course, the authorities seem to think otherwise. They assume she ran off or killed herself. And of course, they wouldn't listen. But Scarlet would do whatever it takes to find her Grandma, even if it meant teaming up with someone she doesn't fully know or trust to get to her.
That's when she meets Wolf, and learns from her father that her grandmother is held captive by tattooed torturers. I really liked Scarlet and Wolf. A lot more than I thought I would, actually.
Meanwhile, Cinder is escaping prison with the help of another criminal, Captain Thorne. And well... I don't want to spoil what happens... soo you'll have to read the book!
When a book features an awesome gang, chaos, war, prison breaks, evil monarchs, bloodthirsty beasts, fights and psychic powers, it's impossible not to love it ! I mean, there is LITERALLY everything you could ever possibly want in this book, no, in this series~ I highly recommend it!
