"Identifying Poets" takes the work of six international poets and examines their identification with a particular territory. It looks at the way poets have naturally or synthetically created a voice in their poetry, representative of that region's character. Among the poets discussed are Derek Walcott, Robert Frost, Hugh MacDiarmid, Sorley MacLean, Les Murray, John Ashbery and Frank Kuppner, with writings covering American, Australian, English, Scottish and Caribbean poetry. "Identifying Poets" argues that the major theme of contemporary poetry is "home" and that poets who identify themselves with a "home region" are crucial and dominant in 20th century poetry.
