Initial Thoughts: A good overview of one girl's year in fourth grade, dealing with everything from preparing for a school show to dealing with annoying boys to navigating friendships. It will be very relatable to a lot of young readers. I'm not sure about the verse aspect, particularly because the book is in first person, and this doesn't seem like the voice or writing of an actual fourth grader. A lot of the book also hinged around Free To Be...You and Me as a theme, and I have no idea what this show is. It's not strictly necessary to know to understand the plot, but it seems like readers would have an advantage if they did know, since it's woven throughout the entire novel.
