Paul Tibbets pilot born on 23 February 1915 died on 1 November 2007 was the USAAF Boeing B-29 pilot whose 1945 mission to the Japanese city of Hiroshima made him the first man to drop an Atomic bomb. Tibbets flew the mission in the famous plane he named Enola Gay after his mother, who had encouraged him to join the Army Air Corps against his fathers advise. Tibbets was the CO of a Special Unit of modified Boeing B-29 Superfortress, and was to train the unit for the Special needs of the Uranium 235 device, the 'Little Boy' Atomic bomb.
