Kelly Reynolds meets movie star Andrew Pettigrew quite accidentally in Indio. In that brief meeting, they leave an impression on the other but Kelly writes it off as nothing more than a chance meeting. She goes back to her life and her boys in Idaho, living one day at a time since the death of her husband. But when Andy reaches out to her when he's in Idaho, an unlikely friendship develops. Kelly discovers there is much more to Andy than what's portrayed in the gossip pages. He's broken, just like her, but they might be able to fix each other.
Kelly and Andy were both fighting demons from their past. Kelly's was the untimely death of her husband. For Andy it's the past his running from. Neither of them take great strides to hide the fact that they are hurting from something in their past, but they are able to start building a relationship anyway. Things don't always go smoothly, especially with Andy being a huge Hollywood star, but they manage to navigate those rough waters by talking through their issues. But with anything, when you ignore the elephant in the room, it tends to get bigger and become a problem rather than going away. Kelly's inability to let go of her dead husband and Andy's inability to moderate his excesses and deal with his past threaten what they have built. They have to own their demons and understand how to deal with them, by themselves, before they can get to the point of being each other's rock.
A beautifully crafted story that had me thoroughly engrossed from the very beginning. Definitely one to pick up.
