Initial thoughts: I don't think I've ever felt this disappointed after reading a book I was so excited about. I mean, Salem witch trials tied in with the present day, trying to find out how they might be connected? Count me in!

The book alternated between 1706 and 2012 and had parallel plots. To me it felt like two random books were torn apart then rebound together like a mash-up, except it didn't work. It took me three weeks to drag myself through it because I kept hoping that eventually these stories would intertwine in a way that explained the significance of alternating between the present and the past. Sadly, I waited in vain.

Supposedly smart Colleen takes 400 pages to assert herself at one of the most petty, ignorant, senior girls at her private school while also living in Salem and knowing nothing about the witch trials. What a waste.
