Tim Fischer MP, formerly Deputy PM, Minister for Trade and Leader of the National Party of Australia, led the official parliamentary delegation to observe the conduct of the independence ballot in East Timor. This book collects his notes on what he saw and heard on the conduct of his colleagues, the Indonesian Army, the UN team which managed the ballot, the militias, the Catholic church and others. It is his story, written as a diary of seven tumultuous days. Fischer travelled across East Timor during the seven days he spent there. The result of this experience is a very personal account of an event of historical importance, from a privileged vantage point.
