I bought this when I was in the US in 2009 after seeing the musical at The Kennedy Centre in Washington D.C. and it's languished on my shelves ever since. This is the musical script adaptation of the Spring Awakening play. My feelings about this are pretty similar to how I felt about the play, and I definitely enjoyed watching the musical a lot more than reading the play/script. Watching the musical was definitely a much more emotive experience.
I think the songs are so peppy, I almost forgot how bleak the subject material is. One thing that really pissed me off about the musical, after reading the play, is how they turned the rape scene into a consensual experience. No. Just no. All in all, another meh book for me. Trigger warnings for physical abuse, suicide, and abortion (I'm sorry if I've forgotten anything).
