Part of a series intended to help children put English into context, these courses aim to provide flexible, topic-linked literature and language work. Topics have been chosen for their strong links with other National Curriculum subjects, particularly science, and each book is closely linked to National Curriculum levels, helping teachers monitor children's progress through the various Levels of Attainment. Each topic covers the required National Curriculum Attainment Targets for English at each level. Activities in Attainment Targets One to Three, "Speaking and Listening", "Reading and Writing", as well as work on knowledge about language, are dealt with thoroughly. Links are made to Attainment Targets 4-5 "Spelling and Handwriting" where possible.
