So... I am disappointed while at the same time excited. The problem with this book is that it starts of quite slow, and the last 100 pages hold so many new things and revelations, that it often feels too action packed to get a good sense about what is going on. It makes me believe that the next book is going to be great, but these last few books should have been better in my opinion. Right now, they feel too much like watching an episode of a television series in which a lot happens, and then suddenly the reveals start pouring in on the last few minutes (pages) to make sure that the reader also picks up the next installment. I would like to believe that Sanderson is better than that. I wonder if this writing style that is more direct causes my disappointment, because he is better at writing everything in extreme depth?

I love the way the relationship between Waxillium and Steris developed and how they were just so much fun together. Still Wayne is still a great character.

Things are both improved and disimproved. Wax solves some mysteries and fails to solve some and dies (but not permanently) and discovers more about himself and his world.

While in a different time, and with a different goal from the original Mistborn trilogy, this one expanded on the world in unexpected ways. I'm always impressed how Sanderson can bring back an idea from books ago that was ambiguous and expand on it. This book gave me a Final Fantasy vibe --a combination from the time period, magic system, characters and a few familiar plot devices that somehow seem right at home in the world of Mistborn.

Classic Sanderson. A big step up from the last book and back on the plane I expect for/from Mistborn. Reminded me of why I loved Mistborn so much in the first place and gets me really hyped about the next book. I also can't wait to read the novella and it seems I've found out about the Cosmere at just the right time! Now to go devour the rest of his books...
