Orson Welles, who both stars in and directed the production proclaimed at the time; 'We're starting out tonight with the best story of its kind ever written, you will find it in every representative library of classic English narrative. It is Bram Stoker's "Dracula".' Orson Welles and John Houseman, founder of the Mercury Theatre, believed this to be one of their finet productions ever made, and Welles later remarked to interviewer Peter Bogdanovich; 'I did it on the radio; oh God, it was wonderful! It's the most hair-raising, marvelous book in the world! It's told by four people, and must be done with four narrations, as we did it on the radio.'
