This book examines the nature and purpose of educational technology in the 1990s. Based on research in both the UK and the US, it discusses the challenges to the field that have occurred in the late 1980s: the theoretical challenge from cognitive science, the technical challenge from information technology, the political challenge from the Left, and the moral challenge from the radical critics. It questions the impact which these challenges are likely to have on theory and practice in educational technology in the 1990s, and addresses the way in which educational technologists should be responding to them. This book is aimed at all those concerned with the proper use of technology in the service of education, including policy-makers, administrators, teachers and teacher trainers. The author has also published "New Information Technology in Education" (1983) and, together with Wendy Newton and Carole Hall, "Computers in Company Training" (1988).
