This volume has been written to provide senior undergraduate students with a focused account of the field of bioinorganic chemistry. Coverage ranges from the long-established views on nutritional aspects of basic physiology through to state-of-the-art understanding of the structure/function of enzyme active sites, chemical modelling and mechanism of drug action. A continuous theme throughout the book is the emphasis placed on the importance of bioinorganic chemistry in medicine and pharmacology. Intended primarily as a text for students in chemistry, detailed chemistry is avoided as this is assumed to have been covered in other courses. However, as the text should also be of some interest to students within the biological sciences, essential chemical and physical points are explained so that the subtlety of the biological system can be understood. Where this digression needs to be made, the text indicates that the initiated reader may bypass the particular chemical or physical point in question. Each chapter includes a set of questions appropriate for students at senior undergraduate level.
Chapter one in the text acts as an introduction, and the following areas are then covered by the remaining chapters.
