Bentham's works encompass the fields of ethics, jurisprudence, education, logic and political economics. His writings were driven by the desire to benefit all humankind, reflected in his work on the reform of law, parliamentary institutions and education. In John Hill Burton's introduction to this collection he lists the number of reforms first advanced by Bentham and adopted by the legislature. He championed the utilitarian principle that good is to be found in the greatest happiness of the greatest number. Bentham sought to make this rule the basis of morals and legislation. This 11-volume collection also includes John Bowring's "Memoir of Bentham".
