This is a study, originally classified, of the interaction between Government policy, economics, and wider NATO policy, of the incoming Labour administration of 1964. In particular the effect of the Service's ambitious procurement programme is a prime focus of the study. The author also considers the early steps along the road of Anglo-French co-operation in the design and manufacture of military aircraft, as well as the re-structuring of the RAF in the late 1960s, and the fierce debates at the time over NATO strategy.
