This is an examination of the threat to the world's wildlife and their habitats, imposed both directly and indirectly by man. Opening with the example of the Madagascar lemur, the book examines why many other creatures are equally in danger. The destruction of habitats such as the rainforests and wetlands is the key to danger, but hunting and pollution are other threats to wildlife today. There follows a discussion of some victims of human persecution such as whales, rhinoceroses and spotted cats, and why action is needed to save them. A brighter message is offered in chapters concerning national parks and captive breeding schemes, in which specific examples of successes are given. The author also wrote the "Animal Kingdom" series, "Pollution and Conservation" in "Our World" series and "Rhinoceroses".
