This text seeks to provide a technical foundation for the average reader in the PC server market who is new to the world of high availability computing systems. A "cluster base-line" is established for readers enabling an evaluation of the many "cluster" products being offered. In addition the book discusses the technology directions that Microsoft's "WolfPack" vendor teams are heading in. NT Clustering is covered from hardware to software rather than stand-alone NT servers. Readers who do not require all the features of clustering should benefit by identifying when clustering is not the best solution for them. Alternative solutions such as Octopus from Octopus Technologies are examples of choices other than WolfPack clusters. The book contrasts these products and shows the pros and cons associated with alternative technologies.
