This book will appeal to anyone interested in the early history of the Independent Chapel/ Congregational Church, the first Nonconformist place of worship in Garstang. The Chapel was built in 1777 when the town was under the ownership of Sir Edward Walpole, second son of Sir Robert Walpole, Britain's first Prime Minister. The history of the Chapel has often been interwoven with that of the town, and this enables us to catch a glimpse of the town's rich, but long forgotten, history. National events occasionally creep into the story, placing the Church on the stage of history.
