When the book starts Darcy and Mason have an already established relationship, though they are not quite mated yet. They are leading a happy life with the Mystic Wolves pack, and are simply waiting for the mating ritual to finally happen. However, things quickly get heated when someone attacks Darcy, and their world gets turned upside down. I love the pack. Mason is incredibly sweet and it’s rare that he goes complete alpha, and I really liked that he had a personal war going on about what level of control is too much and what is just right. Darcy is mischievous and can hold her own, however she did make some pretty poor decisions early on that had me worried about how the rest of the book was going to go. I definitely want to know more about her past and how her former pack operated since it’s only mentioned in passing. My favorite character is probably Devlin, the vampire Enforcer. I won’t lie…it’s partially because he’s a vampire but also because he’s one of Darcy’s strongest support systems in the story.
The action scenes are pretty great, and I really loved the whole dual entity aspect of the werewolves. I prefer when supernatural creatures have a level of animalistic nature that they can’t control, it feels more realistic than a werewolf completely in control of their humanity, so The Mystic Wolves gets major points for that. I will say that I wish the plot had been a bit more apparent to begin with, as I was sort of confused about what was going to pull this series together. The ending definitely has me curious about how well Darcy is going to handle the new situation, and just how Mason is going to hold it together.
