I always find myself torn with Samantha Young books – I’m either pulled immediately into the story or find myself losing interest quickly. Luckily, this is a strong debut into her first foray with paranormal romance. Thea and Conall’s enemies to lovers romance is done to perfection. Their individual motives – her on the run from her abusive adoptive father, him on the hunt for her to save his sister – are complex and interesting. If you’re looking for chaste romance, I’d recommend skipping this series.
While I enjoyed the characters and plot, I found the world-building a little too convoluted. Or, perhaps, the world-building moments got info dumped into long passages during the middle of the book. It slowed the story down considerably as I tried to keep pace with the current setting and yet understand the entire world. Hopefully the world building moments are broken up more in future installments.
tl;ldr A sexy, fun paranormal enemies to lovers romance with complex and interesting characters.
