This introductory text assumes little prior scientific knowledge on the part of the student. It includes enough information for some shorter introductory botany courses open to both majors and non-majors, and is arranged so that certain sections can be omitted without disrupting the overall continuity of the course. Stern emphasizes current interests without giving short shrift to botanical principles. - Every chapter features an integration guide between text and technology supplements, so that students have a clear understanding of where and how to access all the available study tools. - The Online Learning Centre will be revised to feature animations on life cycles, photo gallery, ecological applications, and a greatly expanded reference to medicinal and herbal plants. - The chapter on plant breeding and propagation has been rewritten, and now features a new section on crop plant evolution, including discussions of origins of agriculture and steps in domestication.
