It's been a long time since I read the first three books in this series, so I have relatively vague memories of the various kids. Still, I recalled enough to know that this is the first time the twins Sandy and Denny get to enjoy the spotlight. In this story, the twins are sent back in time to live with Noah and his relatives, pre-ark. It's a pleasant read that nicely straddles both the line between child and adult, and between religious faith and scepticism. It is by nature a religious story, but not so much that it hits you over the head. The twins themselves seem unconvinced by the end of the book.

All in all, a nice read that doesn't so much continue the Murry story's family, as send two of its characters on a tangential adventure.

I was alittle confused going into it because it is listed as the 4th book but it seems to take place between 2 and 3. Overall I enjoyed it, I loved the different take on a well known bible story. And seeing as I'm not a religious person I was quite surprised that I enjoyed as much as I did.

I read Many Waters so long and ago and so many times I can't think of it with an analytical mind.

I keep coming back to it because I love the characters. It's a simple and straight forward book, but all of the characters are distinct and well drawn. I love the way they see the world and grow and change and listen to the stars. I love the seraphim. Sometimes Sandy and Dennys are a little simplistic and seem to artificially be the voice of doubt for a logical reader but I love them anyway. And I always wish that there were echoes of the Sandy and Dennys who had lived with Noah and his family in [b:A Swiftly Tilting Planet|77276|A Swiftly Tilting Planet (Time Quintet, #3)|Madeleine L'Engle|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1327465278s/77276.jpg|1196024] but I know it was written first. Still, I would have liked to have seen how they grew up with the influence of this story upon them.

Because it's a good story.
