The practice of prayer at intervals through the day is ancient Christian practice and has resulted in lives deepened in love and peace and knowledge of God. The maximum benefit will be obtained from this book if the user prays three of four times daily. Each chapter is like thought for the day and can be dwelt on for a little while, like a mini meditation. The lectionary readings should be followed where possible but if time is difficult the chapter in this book is sufficient. It is possible to use these forms of prayer alone, or with a friend or in the family. The scheme is as follows. Monday to Saturday. Morning Prayer. Midday Prayer. Evening Prayer, and (as an option) compline. Within each section there is an invocation, a hymn, a Psalm, lectionary readings (printed in full) a canticle and concluding prayers. The emphasis throughout is on simplicity and dignity. There is no florid or ornate language and the busy modern working person is the market for this excellent publication.
