Each book contains a selection of 9 or 10 myths and the same number of historical/cultural themes. Each myth is coupled with a nonfiction spread. The myths, chosen for their references to important aspects of the civilisation, are retold and illustrated on dramatic black backgrounds. Each myth spread is followed by a non-fiction spread which focuses on an aspect of the civilisation and its material culture.
