Channabasappa S. Patil, to whom these volumes are dedicated, was the energetic and greatly talented Deputy Director of the Karnataka Department of Archaeology and Museums. He was a close colleague and personal friend of the directors of the VRP and VMS. He died in 2001 at a tragically young age.
