Penquilla Daftus (Penny for short) is a lively grandmother who enjoys gardening, playing the piano, and drinking fresh, raw milk (goat milk mainly, but cow is good, too.) She loves flowers, and used to grow them every year. She doesn't anymore, because she's recovering from a broken hip. She fell and broke it while fixing a fence, because Penny is used to doing things herself; while motoring around the house with her walker, she thinks about next year's container garden. Penny is now planning Penny's Garden, a coloring book she's writing and illustrating with the help of Lea Lashaway. Also in the works are more stories about her childhood, and growing up during the 1930s and '40s. She's busy writing, in between feeding the animals, planting her seeds, and mopping the kitchen floor.
