Feliciano Sanchez Chan was born in the village of Xaya, Tekax, in the state of Yucatan, Mexico, in 1960. His work Retazos de Vida (Slices of Life) won the Itzamna Prize for literature written in the Mayan language awarded by the Institute of Culture of the state of Yucatan. The following year, 1998, his work X-Marcela, also won the Itzamna Prize and his work, Yum Kuutz yetel puujuy was awarded third place. In 2003 he was awarded the Domingo Dzul Poot Prize from the Autonomous University of Yucatan for narrative written in the Mayan language for his work Tomoxchi'. He is currently a promoter of culture for the Department of Popular Culture of the state of Yucatan.
