Dr. A. B. Rai, was born on August 3, 1956 at the Village- Payeen, P.O.-Kamharia, District- Chandauli. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Entomology and Agril. Zoology in 1985 from BHU, Varanasi. Dr. Rai has an experience of more than 32 years in research and teaching. He started his career as Assistant Research Scientist-cum-Assistant Professor (Entomology) in the Gujarat agricultural University during 1986, later joined ICAR institute Manipur, as Senior scientist in 1999 and Indian Institute of Pulses Research (ICAR), Kanpur in 2003. Presently, He is working in the capacity Head, Crop Protection at ICAR- Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi since 2005. His major area of research has been on the insect & mite pest management in crops of agricultural & horticultural importance. Till now he has been responsible for developing technologies for Pest management (27) and vegetable varieties identified/released (12) He has guided 7 M.Sc. (Ag) and 3 Ph.D. students in Entomology. He has published 225) research papers in journals of national and international repute, 26 full proceeding papers, 175 research abstracts, 07 review papers, 70 popular articles, 06 books, 35 book chapters, 12 technical Bulletins, 08 manuals and 25 leaflets/folders. Invited delegate at VIII International Congress of Acarology, 6-11 Aug. 1990, Academy of Science, Institute of Parasitology, Branisovska, Ceske Budjovice, Czechoslovakia. He is credited with Crop Protection Research Award 2004-2005 by Agro-Chemical Manufacturer Association of India (AMAI), Ganesh ShankerVidyarthy Award from ICAR for the Hindi Patrika "SABJI KIRAN" Vol 1 (1) January- June issue 2007, ISHRD Fellowship Award-2010 by Indian Society of Horticulture Research & Development (ISHRD), Fellowship Award-2010 by Society for Recent Development in Agriculture (SRDA), Best Paper Presentation Award -2010 by Society for Plant Protection Environment (SPPE), Life Fellow Award -2008 by Entomological Society of India, The Indian Society of Vegetable Science has honoured to Dr. Rai ISVS Fellowship in 2009 and with four times Harbhajan Singh gold medal awards for best research papers published in vegetable science in 2009 and 2015, respectively.
