My name is RJ Sanford, and I am writing my first book. I am a guy that at a young age used to write the words to songs to learn them. LL cool J "I Need Love" was the first song I wrote, sitting at the dinner table with my radio and cassette. I played and stopped that tape until I was done. This writing thing would come back into my life while I was in Basic Combat Training in the Army. My down time was writing letters home and a little poetry while finishing or waiting to do the next training. As I was writing one of my short poetry poems, I challenged myself to see if I could write it into a book. And so, it begins. Believe it or not but I wasn't the best student in school. Often times I would get into trouble with teachers because I wanted to do what I wanted to do. It wasn't til my second half of 10th grade that I started to get my conduct together. After being shown my high school file and the thickness of it, a change was made within myself. I had always done my work, but my attitude was awful. So, because of me I started late. I became somewhat of a nerd. Learning as much as I could whatever I was into, not to be the best, but just to be good. With my writing I got some good and bad comments, changes made, re-writes, do overs, etc. I understand where I stand in my writing, and not competing with others. I write to release feelings I am feeling, thoughts I am having, creativity I can come up with, and what may inspire me.
