DAN CONLEY is a retired Royal Navy Captain who experienced command in both conventional and nuclear-powered submarines. He was a key player in the entry into service of the first UK trident submarine _Vanguard_, and was a leading policymaker in developing nuclear weapons strategy in the 1990s.
