Kenneth Knight joined the (British) Royal Navy in July 1942 during World War Two and saw service in submarines. Leaving the navy he graduated in mechanical engineering and rose to become superintendent of a major power plant. In 1966 the author came to the United States to join one of the world's foremost engineering and construction companies, where he held senior positions in the design of major electric generating stations, both conventional and nuclear.
