Hriday Nath Kaul post-graduated in Diplomacy and International Affairs from the Allahabad University in 1950 and joined the Press Trust of India as a trainee-journalist. As a Journalist he had ample opportunities to study the India-China boundary issue, including in Kashmkir, where he served for several years. He has extensively written on Kashmir in newspapers, notably on Anglo-Dogra relations in the 19th century, the genesis of the boundary dispute. An earlier work of his, Evolution of India's Oil Policy, was published in1990. The present volume is the first of a trilogy on Kashmir.
