Katherine Bauch and her husband, Robert, married young and traveled all around the country as he served as an officer in the United States Air Force. Katherine's full time focus and passion is being a mom to her daughter, Marie-Claire, who was born with a rare genetic condition known as Williams syndrome (WS). Williams syndrome is characterized by developmental delays, heart defects, and a unique behavioral profile that often overlaps with the autism spectrum. Katherine spends a lot of time learning from and collaborating with Marie-Claire's team of therapists, educators, and doctors. Shortly after her daughter's second open-heart surgery, Katherine quit her job as a sonographer at Massachusetts General Hospital to homeschool Marie-Claire. Recently, the family moved back to their native state, Colorado, after spending seven years in the Boston area. Katherine believes the often-challenging but rewarding responsibility of raising a child with special needs has made her a stronger and more empathetic person. She is passionate about educating others about the importance of inclusion and encouraging other parents of special needs children.
