Mary Higgins was always being told to stop imagining things. She grew up in the Bahamas, moving to the United States when she was ten years old. Her parents tried to curb their daughter's wild imagination so she could focus on her schoolwork. She eventually listened and put her fantasies on the back burner to get through school. She graduated from university with a degree in literary studies and immediately started to write. Her tales are filled with mysterious creatures and fantasies. What she highlights to the reader through these stories is that even if there are other species in the universe, they all have something in common. They are all looking for love or at least sexual satisfaction. It is how they go about it that makes everything interesting.
