Rob Tackes was a shy, gay youth exploring Chicago in the 1940s and '50s. He and his partner, Denis, moved to San Francisco in 1970 at the start of the gay liberation revolution. Rob's spirited experiences included escapades in real estate, marijuana and sex. HIV hit him hard in 1981, but through persistence he became a miracle long-term survivor. Rob and Denis currently live in Palm Springs, California, where they recently celebrated their fifty-eighth anniversary as partners. Rob relaxes by tending his gardens and visiting his cafes.
