Joan Schmeichel's work includes the coming of age series: The Times of Laura Grey, More Times of Laura Grey and Laura Grey and Friends. She is also the author of Dey Calls Me Maggie, a story that combines history with time travel to take the reader back to the days of Harriet Tubman; Devil's Rock, where two boys out camping get an offer they can't refuse when they run into a recently released convict; It's a Doggone Life, a surprising tale of spoiled animals suddenly left on their own; and the adventures of Thorngar, a bison who breaks out of the zoo to head back to the prairie. The author and her husband have lived most of their lives in Michigan, in Ann Arbor and Jackson, with some time in the Philadelphia area. They now reside in their former vacation home in Kewadin, Michigan.
