A.B. Facey (1894–1982) was born and grew up on the Kalgoorlie Goldfields and the Wheatbelt of Western Australia. He went out to work when he was eight years old, and was droving in the North-West at fourteen. He had no formal education and originally wrote his acclaimed autobiography, A Fortunate Life, for his family.
