Michael J. Colacurcio is Distinguished Professor of English at the University of California, Los Angeles. He is the author of a number of books and articles on classic American literature, including The Province of Piety: Moral History in Hawthorne's Early Tales and Doctrine and Difference: Essays in the Literature of New England.
